Project: Exhibiting community resilience and solidarity among older Asian Victorians during COVID-19

About the role

You will work on a project that curates an in-person photography exhibition for older Chinese, Sri Lankan and Indonesian migrants in Melbourne. The exhibition will feature photographic works submitted by older Victorians from these communities through a community photography competition, which is currently running until the end of November 2022. The in-person exhibition is funded by the School of Culture and Communication, the University of Melbourne. You will be expected to support the planning and delivery of the exhibition and the administration of this project by undertaking the following tasks.

  • Conduct literature review on the topic of art, community building and digital technology to inform the conceptual design of the exhibition

  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of the exhibition, which will be held in March 2023 at the Digital Studio of the University of Melbourne

  • Liaise with community members to prepare their works for the exhibition.

  • Liaise with the Digital Studio to identify needed resources, criteria, opportunities, and issues require attention for the successful execution of the exhibition.

  • Design and produce promotional materials (flyers and online content) for the exhibition.

  • Connect with existing and explore new networks in the art and creative sector to engage with this event.

  • Support general administration as required.

  • The appointee must be physically located in Melbourne during the project period (November 2022 - March 2023, inclusive) as there will be on-site duties at the University of Melbourne and visiting community organisations.

This position requires the following qualifications and skills

Essential

  • Have a demonstrated and genuine passion for diversity and inclusion, and a commitment to striving for improvements in these areas.

  • A developing track record in supporting/coordinating art exhibition; experience of working in photography exhibition will be highly regarded.

  • Demonstrated (emerging) experience in managing community engagement-focused projects.

  • Demonstrated experience and passion in developing/contributing to digital and visual storytelling in a multicultural context.

  • High-level communication and stakeholder liaison skills to build trusting relationships and collaboration.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing multiple priorities and working to strict deadlines. Able to organise own work program as well as manage the input of others.

  • Academic background (graduated or undertaking) in one of the following areas: media and communications, art history and curatorship, photography and visual communication, art and cultural management, exhibition design and delivery.

Desirable (not essential)

  • Ability to write and communicate in at least one of these languages: Cantonese, Mandarin, Sinhalese and Indonesian.

  • Experience in photographic processing software.

  • Established or developing connections with local art and photography communities in Victoria.

Appointment conditions:

Rate: RA Grade 1.2

Appointment type: Casual, 35-40 hours

Job title: Project Officer (All positions are now filled, thanks for everyone’s EoI)

Project: Co-creating digital content with older Chinese, Sri Lankan and Indonesian Australians to promote COVIDSafe behaviours and information

About the role

You will work on a project that produces short videos and organises a virtual photography competition for older Chinese, Sri Lankan and Indonesian migrants in Melbourne. The project is funded by the Victorian State Government through the Multicultural Communication Outreach Program 2.0. You will be expected to support the project coordination and administration by undertaking the following tasks.

·         Contribute to the design and development of video storytelling frameworks relating to the project’s themes by collating relevant COVIDSafe resources.

·         Support the production of 20 short videos (5min each) by liaising with migrant communities and video production contractor.

·         Help to develop and maintain project websites with Squarespace or a similar website building tool.

·         Help to develop and maintain a virtual gallery with Artsteps or a similar virtual gallery building tool.

·         Develop digital promotional flyers for the photography competition and video resources.

·         Build trusting relations with community organisations and of the three cultural groups and contractors to coordinate the video production.

·         Support other administrative tasks as required.

This position requires the following qualifications and skills

·         Demonstrated experience in managing multiple priorities and working to strict deadlines. Able to organise own work program as well as manage the input of others.

·         Ability to write and communicate in at least one of these languages: Cantonese, Mandarin, Sinhalese and Indonesian.

·         Experience in sourcing, navigating and interpreting government information and materials.

Rate: UOM Level 6
